Cast Iron Cookware Seasoned cast-iron cookware will last for years and provide a non-stick surface. Cast-Iron cookware has been used for many generations and will continue for many more. To season your cast-iron cookware properly and create your own non-stick cookware: Heat oven 250-300degrees. Coat inside of pan with lard or bacon grease. DO NOT use liquid or spay oil as it will leave a sticky residue and will not season properly. Put the pan in the oven for about 15 min. and pour out any excess grease. Then place the pan back into the oven for around 2 hours to bake. A greater seasoning bond will occur after several applications. It is recommended that you use your seasoned pan for a food that is high in fat content as this will aide in the seasoning process. Such as cooking bacon or chicken. If your cast iron begins to rust or food begins to stick, wash in hot soapy water and clean throughly and repeat seasoning process. To clean your seasoned pan after cooking, simply rinse with hot water while pan is still warm, scraping when necessary and dry with a paper towel. Do not use any scouring pads or detergents/soaps as these products cause a breakdown in the seasoning. Always remove food, don't store it in your seasoned cookware, this will also break down the seasoning and give your foods a metalic flavor. (oh yuck) You should store your seasoned cookware with the lids off as to avoid moisture, which will cause a rusting process to occur. If this should happen, re-season as above. So enjoy your new cast-iron cookware and how easy they are to care for. Lodge Logic has pre-seasoned the cookware for you. Check out what we have to offer below.
